Palo Alto Networks (NASDAQ:PANW) CEO Nikesh Arora said the platformization of cybersecurity functions leads to stronger security overall, and has helped Palo Alto achieve consistent revenue growth.
“We walked into the security business and found that it was fragmented,” Arora said during the Goldman Sachs Communacopia and Technology conference on Monday.
They found enterprises would depend on one company to provide endpoint protection, another to provide firewalls, another for VPNs, etc. Palo Alto decided to bring these various cybersecurity solutions under one roof.
“Customers want better security at a better price,” Arora said. “Customers are also finding out that security risks increase when you employ more solutions.”
“You need an integrated solution where all the services are provided from one platform,” he added. “We should have done platformization earlier.”
He also commented on the rise of artificial intelligence.
“Every customer is horribly confused by AI,” he said. “They are trying to figure out how this becomes real. On the consumer side, people know they can use it to create an image, video or write a story. But on the enterprise side, it is more complicated.”
Still, he said every one of his enterprise customers is working on developing some type of AI agent or model. These are typically directed towards customer service, sales and/or coding.
“Security is very important when doing this,” Arora said. “You have to have a firewall against it. Hackers would love to hijack your chatbot just to show you that they can.”
He also said the move to more cloud-based data does not take away the need for firewalls.
“There is a fallacy that when we go to the cloud, the need for firewalls will go away,” Arora said. “But the cloud is still powered by datacenters. They need firewall protection.”
