- Retail sales in Australia stagnated from a year earlier in July 2024, missing market forecasts of a 0.3% rise and coming after growth in the prior three months.
- Through the year to July, retail trade rose by 2.3%, softer than June’s 13-month high of 2.9%.
- Separate data showed private sector credit in Australia rose by 0.5% month-on-month in July 2024, slightly softer than the strongest pace in 21 months of 0.6% growth in the previous month but above market forecasts of 0.4%.
- The S&P/ASX 200 Index rose 0.4% to around 8,080 on Friday, reversing losses from the previous session.
