A pair of high-profile NBA names were arrested on Thursday morning in connection with investigations into illegal gambling, according to
ESPN — a sign of how legalized sports betting has become increasingly problematic.
Portland Trail Blazers coach Chauncey Billups was arrested as part of an investigation into an illegal poker operation, and Miami Heat guard Terry Rozier was arrested as part of a probe in which sportsbooks flagged unusual betting activity on Rozier’s statistics ahead of a game in 2023, when he played for the Charlotte Hornets. The Department of Justice said it will announce more information on the arrests on Thursday.
