Google (NASDAQ:GOOG)(NASDAQ:GOOGL) revealed its latest line of Pixel 9 phones, all of which feature the on-device artificial intelligent assistant Gemini Nano.
“Gemini Nano is the most efficient model for powering AI on device,” said Rick Osterloh, Google’s senior vice president of platforms and devices, during the Made By Google event on Tuesday in Mountain View, Calif. “The hybrid infrastructure lets us run Gemini at scale on the cloud and on your device.”
“For years we’ve been envisioning our mobile AI assistant, but we’ve been limited by what the devices could do,” he added. “It can only be possible due to advances made to devices over the past six months. The new Gemini assistant goes beyond understanding words to understanding your intent.”
Google highlighted that the personal information used by the on-device AI assistant remains private.
“It’s critical your personal information is private and protected,” said Sameer Samat, president of the Android ecosystem at Google. “Gemini Nano is the first-time a multimodal is available on a device, so all your info stays on the phone.”
The four new phones include the Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL and Pixel 9 Pro Fold. This is the first time the Pro is available in two sizes. The new Tensor G4 processor powers the phones, with 12 GB of RAM in the Pixel 9 and 16 GB in the Pixel 9 Pro. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold unfurls into an eight-inch tablet.
Google said the Pixel 9 is twice as durable as previous iterations due to its shatter-resistant Gorilla Glass Victus 2, which is made by Corning (GLW).
Pixel 9 starts at $799 while the Pixel 9 Pro XL is $1,099.
Google also revealed a new Pixel Watch 3 and Pixel Buds Pro 2. The watch has a loss of pulse feature which can notify emergency responders when a user’s pulse stops. Google compared it to the invention of the smoke detector.
The new Google devices are available for pre-order today and ship on August 22.
Google inched up 1% during Tuesday afternoon trading.
