Petro-Canada said it has made progress in restoring full service after a cyber incident at parent firm Suncor Energy.

The suspected attack disrupted card payments to some of Petro-Canada’s 1,500 retail stations and impacted payments to suppliers.

“Our sites are open, with debit and credit transactions available at most locations, in addition to cash payments,” the company posted on Twitter

Petro-Canada said it would continue to provide updates as more services are restored. The company’s mobile app, rewards points program and some car wash locations remain impacted.

Calgary-based Suncor reported the incident Sunday, just days after Canadian authorities warned of threats against the country’s oil and gas sector. Suncor hired outside experts and notified authorities, but said there was no immediate evidence data had been compromised.

State-linked threat actors have targeted the Canadian energy sector, citing the country’s support for Ukraine as motivation. The warnings from Canadian officials reference efforts by threat actors to establish persistence inside the networks of critical infrastructure providers in the U.S. and Canada, including those in the oil and gas industry.

Suncor officials were not immediately available for comment.
