Steel Dynamics (NASDAQ:STLD) said Thursday it has petitioned the U.S. Commerce Department and the U.S. International Trade Commission to apply anti-dumping duties on imports of corrosion resistant flat-rolled steel, claiming surging imports have harmed the domestic steel industry.
The company said duties should be applicable to imports from Australia, Brazil, Canada, Mexico, the Netherlands, South Africa, Taiwan, Turkey, United Arab Emirates and Vietnam, as well as countervailing duties against imports from Brazil, Canada, Mexico and Vietnam.
Imports of corrosion resistant flat-rolled steel from the 10 subject countries surged to nearly 2M tons in this year’s H1 from less than 1.25M tons a year earlier, impacting the U.S. steel industry’s volume, prices and profits, according to the company.
Subject to initiation, Steel Dynamics (STLD) said it hopes for preliminary determinations on subsidies later this year and on dumping early next year, with final rulings by both agencies completed by October 2025.
